New on loc.gov/collections: Civil War Sesquicentennial Web Archive

    LOC Manuscript Division Tracker

The American Civil War Sesquicentennial Web Archive presents a collection of more than 200 archives commemorating the 150th anniversary (2011-2015) of the American Civil War. The bulk of the collection is government websites of states, regions, and counties, along with historical associations and museums marking the sesquicentennial with events and programs. Social media was important to collect in some cases. For example, Facebook event pages of Civil War reenacting units were selected. While the bulk of the archives focus on the United States, there are a few that mark commemorations in the United Kingdom. The vast majority of items in the collection are fully accessible online. The collection connects with a wealth of resources that the library has on the American Civil War and will be useful to researchers studying the American Civil War and its memorialization, particularly in comparison to the Civil War Centennial (1961-1965)
