Dear Ms. Yates,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
U.S. Military Hospitals often retire Clinical inpatient records to the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) and administrative reports or histories to the National Archives for permanent retention according to their Agency’s records management guidelines. Individual medical records are filed in the veteran’s medical file.
Civilian hospitals, on the other hand, sometimes turn clinical inpatient records over to the nearest hospital or destroy them. Any historical documents of the Civilian hospital may go to a local historical society for permanent storage.
We suggest that you review Find Old Hospital and Asylum for Genealogy and/or Ancestry’s Blog Searching for Hospital Records Blog for tips on how to locate hospital records of interest.
We hope you find this helpful. Best of luck with your research!
