Dear Ms. Bennett,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located headquarters Letters Sent, 1824-1886 and Letters Received, 1824-1880 (National Archives Microfilm Publication No. M234) among the Records of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Record Group 75). During that era, agencies and sub-agencies reported to the superintendency which most likely was the California Superintendency established in 1852, who then reported to Washington DC. However, Indian agent records were not saved by the BIA because they were considered the agent's personal private property until 1875. For access to and/or copies of these records, please contact the National Archives in Washington (RDT1) via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
