Dear Ms. Harrison,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
Various offices within the Department of Defense have informed us that no agency of the Federal Government has ever compiled comprehensive lists of all individuals who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Spanish American War from particular states or communities. If you have not already done so, we suggest you contact your state’s Adjutant General’s Office (https://www.ngaus.org/about-ngaus/contact-or-visit-ngaus/find-your-state-association).
The National Archives does have custody of the military service records of persons that served in various parts of the United States Armed Forces during the Spanish American War, however, with the exception of the Carded Records Showing Military Service of Soldiers Who Fought in Volunteer Organizations During the Spanish-American War, these records are not searchable by state. The article Sailors, Soldiers, and Marines of the Spanish-American War provides information about the records in the custody of the National Archives that document the service of individual members of the various branches of the armed forces during the war. The records described in the article are in the custody of the National Archives in Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1). To access these records, please contact RDT1 via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.We hope this information is helpful.
