Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and locate a series titled Records Related to Herbicides, 1966 - 1972 in the Records of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Record Group 330) that includes a file unit titled VQ-1 Deployment. These records are partially restricted and may require you to file a FOIA for access. We also located series titled Casualty Case Cards, 1964-1977 and the Muster Rolls and Personnel Diaries of U.S. Navy Ships, Stations, and Other Naval Activities, 1949-1971 in the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) that may include the names of servicemen in VQ-1 that died during the Vietnam War. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
In addition, we located a series titled Navy and Marine Corps Casualty Records , 1940-1989 in Record Group 24 that may be of interest. For access to this series, please contact the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL) via email at stl.archives@nara.gov.
For the command histories of VQ-1, please contact the Naval Aviation History Branch, Naval History & Heritage Command, 805 Kidder Breese Street, SE, Washington Navy Yard, Washington, DC 20374-5060. The website is https://www.history.navy.mil/research/histories/naval-aviation-history.html
