Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
According to the unit information we have, the 56th Armored Engineer Battalion (except for Company E) was attached to the 11th Armored Division on 15 August 1942 for the remainder of the war.
We searched the World War II Operations Reports, 1940-1948 in the Records of the Adjutant General's Office (Record Group 407) and located an after action report for January 1945 of the 56th Armored Engineer Battalion, 11th Armored Division (AD). We also located after action reports for 23 December 1944 to May 1945 of the 81st Medical Battalion (Armored) attached to the 11th AD. The after action reports of both units may indicate how and/or where injured soldiers were taken for treatment. For access to and/or copies of the narrative, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
