2 people found this helpfulDear Mr. Eckalbar,
Thank you for posting your request on History hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled World War II War Diaries, Other Operational Records and Histories, ca. 1/1/1942 - ca. 6/1/1946 in the Records of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (Record Group 38) that include 23 file units that pertain to the VPB-109. We also located a series titled World War II Casualty Reports, 1939-1945 in the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) that includes a file unit titled VPB 109. The VB-109 was redesigned as the VPB-109 on 1 October 1944. For access to and/or copies of these file units, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
In addition, there is a history of the VB-109/VPB-109 in the Navy Heritage & History Command’s Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons Volume 2: The History of VP, VPB, VP(H) and VP(AM) Squadrons, Chapter 4: Patrol Bombing Squadrons (pp. 522-526).
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
