Looking for documents concerning the Pennsylvania Interstate Highway Numbering changes from I-80S to I-76 in the early 1960s. I have route numbering history files from the FHWA and I am missing some information in regards to the request by Pennsylvania Dept of Highways to the FHWA in regards to the conversion of I-80S to I-76. This document also included several associated changes to the Interstate System in Pennsylvania. The documents are located in College Park under RG 406, finding aid UD-06D, Item #6.
Dear Mr. Summers,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Interstate System Planning and Designation Files, 1939 - 1989 in the Records of the Federal Highway Administration (Record Group 406) that may include the information you seek. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck on your research!
