1 person found this helpfulDear Ms. Shawn,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
You may be able to request his Marine Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) from the National Archives in St. Louis. These files become open to the public (archival) once the date of separation is 62 years past. Records of service members who left service within the past 62 years are non-archival and subject to access restrictions, but may still be requested under The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
Please submit a completed Request Pertaining to Military Records form and send it to the address below. Include as much information as you have for him (date and location of birth, social security number, service number…).
National Personnel Records Center

St. Louis, MO 63138-1002
Best of luck with your research!

1 person found this helpfulDear Ms. Shawn,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Muster Rolls and Personnel Diaries, 1941-1980 in the Records of the U.S. Marine Corps (Record Group 127). The unit diary portion of the muster roll should indicate when members of the unit were killed or wounded in action. For access and/or copies of your husband’s unit muster rolls that are part of series listed above, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
Additionally, you may want to request a copy of your husband’s medical records. Individual medical reports of veterans who left the Marine Corps prior to May 1994 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. Please complete a NA Form 13042 and mail it to the National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002.
We hope this information is helpful.
