Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships, ca. 1801 - 1940 in the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) that includes deck logs of the USS Northampton for 17 May 1930 through 31 December 1940. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov. We also located the Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships and Stations, 1941 - 1983 in Record Group 24 that include the deck logs of the USS Northampton for 1 January 1941 through 31 October 1942. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
We do not have any logs from November 1942, as they would have been aboard the ship at the time of its sinking. The Naval History and Heritage Command has made available online the USS Northampton CA26 War Damage Report No. 41 which provides an official account of the sinking of Northampton as well as other records concerning the Battle of Tassafaronga in which the ship was lost. Additional records concerning this battle may also be available from RDT2.We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
