Re: Seeking unit and KIA information for Harry James Moyles
joan stachnik Jun 5, 2019 2:04 PM (in response to Patrick Mucha)1 person found this helpfulHi Patrick, I found the name Harry J Moyles (ASN 01321653) on the list of Michigan (Wayne Co) casualties for WWII. There is also a historical marker for Camp Bouse, AZ listing those who died in WWII. Harry J Moyles is listed for the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion, HQ company. Hope this is of help. joan

Re: Seeking unit and KIA information for Harry James Moyles
Patrick Mucha Jun 6, 2019 1:24 PM (in response to joan stachnik)Thanks Joan, much appreciated. Is there anyway to tell which unit he was in before this one? From the enlistment, it looks like he went in before Pearl Harbor, but I wasn't sure if there's a way to figure out his progression from unit to unit in WWII.
Thanks again!

joan stachnik Jun 8, 2019 8:55 AM (in response to Patrick Mucha)2 people found this helpfulHi Patrick, the only way I know to trace previous units is to look through morning reports, starting with the last known unit and work backwards. The reports usually include transfer orders to and from the unit with a list of personnel. I did this for my dad since he was transferred to a different unit just before he was separated from service. Many of the morning reports are at the St. Louis archives. Hope this is of help. Joan

joan stachnik Jun 5, 2019 10:58 PM (in response to Patrick Mucha)2 people found this helpfulHi Patrick, in addition, I found several references to cemetery 1240 as the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery located in Belgium; this seems to have initially been a temporary cemetery for many who died at the Battle of the Bulge. (https://www.med-dept.com/articles/american-wwii-military-cemeteries-memorials/). There is a little more information on the website for the 7th Armored Division (https://www.7tharmddiv.org/eto-unks.htm). joan

Ashley Paxton Jun 8, 2019 11:23 PM (in response to Patrick Mucha)3 people found this helpfulHere is an article from Warfare History Network, that may be of interest to you, if you're seeking to learn more about his temporary interment in Belgium.
The Quartermaster Records may be able to aide your search for more records and information.
Also, (if you haven't yet) I definitely recommend checking out his FindAGrave memorial page. In terms of FAG pages, there is quite a bit of information to be gleaned from it. Whomever created his page has done a good job of adding info! Hope these suggestions help you in your search!

2 people found this helpfulDear Mr. Mucha,
Thank you for posting on History Hub!
The information you seek may be contained in his Individual Deceased Personnel File or IDPF. For WWII-1976, the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL) currently has custody of the Army IDPFs for men with surnames A-L. They have not yet received the IDPFs of veterans with surnames M-Z. In order to request those records please write to U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Casualty & Memorial Affairs Operations Division, ATTN: AHRC-PDC, 1600 Spearhead Division Avenue, Department 450, Fort Knox, KY 40122-5405.
We also conducted a search on NARA’s Access to Archival Databases and located a Harry J Moyles from Detroit, MI in the enlistment records.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck on your research!
