Seeking reports of US Navy sending troops into Japan

    Shari Reif Newbie

Looking to find reports of US Navy troops sent to Japan at the end of World War II, and their assignment to recover bodies of the victims of the nuclear bombs dropped there. Where would they be?

          Dear Ms. Reif,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

The Allied Occupation Forces referred to that portion of southern Japan's occupation as Operation Campus. We searched the National Archives Catalog and located 3 series and one file unit that pertain to Operation Campus.

Additional records located in the Records of Allied Operational and Occupation Headquarters, World War II (Record Group 331) and Records of the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey (Record Group 243).

For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck on your research!
