Investigating Italian Americans re-entering US after WWII

Were Italian-Americans (naturalized) who resided in Italy during WWII investigated after reentering the U.S. following the WWII?  Was their citizenship questioned as legitimate?  Did they receive correspondence from the U.S. government having them questioned after they returned?  Were they stopped at entry points upon arrival?

      Thanks for any information!
