Do you have any additional information like name of veteran, where they were born there are other methods to obtaining records to find your veteran even though his records were destroyed.
Thanks,

Re: Looking for records about uncle's service in WWII
Shirley Marotta May 28, 2019 10:39 AM (in response to Shirley Marotta)I was hoping to get some help with information I requested in my original post. I need some direction so I can find the information regarding my uncle Roland Boucher's WWII service. It gets expensive hiring professionals so was hoping this community could be helpful. Now that the long Memorial Weekend is over maybe someone will see my post.
Thank you, I look forward to anyone's help and direction.
Shirley

Re: Looking for records about uncle's service in WWII
joan stachnik May 29, 2019 1:38 PM (in response to Shirley Marotta)1 person found this helpfulHi Shirley, I did find a Roland Boucher (of the 10th Infantry Division) listed on the Society of the Fifth Infantry Division as receiving a Silver Star under General Order #40 in 1945. Did your uncle save his separation papers by chance? These would also list the General Order for his award, as well as any other awards issued. Hope this is of some help. joan

4 people found this helpfulDear Ms. Marotta,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the World War II Operations Reports, 1940-1948 in the Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1905-1981 (Record Group 407) and located General Order No. 40 of the 5th Infantry Division dated 5 May 1945 that includes the awarding of the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Roland Boucher for his gallantry in action on 4 December 1944. We also located an after action report of the 10th Infantry Regiment for December 1944 that include more information. For copies of the general order and the after action report, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
