Seeking Solider stationed at Warner Barracks, Bamberg, Germany

I am desperately trying to find a soldier that was stationed in Bamberg, Germany around 1954. He was the father of Manuela Obitz, my mother-in-law, and the German woman he was with, Maria Meuller, gave her up for adoption that year and refuses to give any information about him, since he was black. Is there any way to trace all soldiers that were stationed in Warner Barracks in 1954-55? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

      Thank you.

          Dear Mr. Baker,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Publications Record Set, 1954 - 1965 in the Records of United States Army, Europe (Record Group 549) that include station lists. The nearest town may be listed for each unit. For access to these lists, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

After you have determined the unit(s) stationed in Bamberg, then we suggest you request a roster of the unit(s). Copies of most of the monthly rosters from 1947-1959 for Army units are in the custody of the National Archives at St. Louis, MO (RL-SL). For access to these records please contact RL-SL via email at stl.archives@nara.gov.

We hope this information is useful. Best of luck with your research!
