Dear Mr. Lanier,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
The basic information contained in the top part of document provides the citations in various records of the Colored Troops Branch for the case of Randolph Lanier, Private of Company C, 15th Regiment, U.S. Colored Troops who was, according to the muster roll (MR), appointed to the rank of Corporal from December 16, 1863 to April 30, 1864. He was reduced in rank per Special Order (S.O.) No. 103, Headquarters 15th USCT, Nashville, Tennessee on July 29, 1864. See MR for July & August 1864. Reduced from Corporal November 17 per S.O. No.101 See MR for November & December 1865.
The second part of the document cites the records used by the Adjutant General’s Office in reply to the case such as the Company Book, the Regimental Order Book, and the Company Morning Report Book to document that Randolph Lanier was appointed Corporal twice. Once in June 1864 and again in January 1865. At Lanier’s request, he was reduced in rank per S.O. No.121 Regimental Headquarters of November 17, 1865.
We hope this information is helpful.
