Dear Ms. Davis,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Aviation Unit Records, ca. 1965 - ca. 1973 in Records of the U.S. Forces in Southeast Asia, 1950 - 1976 (Record Group 472) that includes file units of the 10th Aviation Battalion (Boxes 234-245). We also located 47 series, 205 file units, and 1 item about the use of helicopters during Vietnam
In addition, we located a file unit titled Air Assaults/Assault Helicopter Companies in the series titled After Action Reports, 1965 - 1972 in RG 472 as well as a series titled Security Classified General Records Regarding Aircraft Support , 1969 - 1970 that may have information regarding helicopter company awards. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For a listing of awards, we suggest that you obtain a copy of their Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs). OMPFs and individual medical reports for those who served in the U.S. Army after 1957 and prior to October 16, 1992 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. In many cases where personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire, proof of service can be provided from other records such as morning reports, payrolls, and military orders, and a certificate of military service will be issued. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 for each relative and it mail to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
