2 people found this helpfulDear Ms. Johnston,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We suggest that you might want to change your focus and look at FANs (Family, Associates, and Neighbors). Sometimes researching those associated with the individual can provide inroads for the main subject of the research. In the case of Marentius, immediate family members (ex. daughter), witnesses on docs like his Petition for Naturalization, any known individuals who were neighbors, etc. may prove useful given that he is not readily appearing in any of the “standard” documents we normally would refer family historians to.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!

Henry Rosenberg Apr 29, 2019 3:27 PM (in response to Robyn Johnston)2 people found this helpfulI found his naturalization card on familysearch.org. You may already have it. It lists his first name as Marentins.
The link is:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G937-67W9?i=3355&cc=2043782
You may need to create an account to see it but the accounts are free.
Is it possible he changed his name? Many immigrants did.
That's all I could find.
Good luck,
Henry

Robyn Johnston Apr 30, 2019 9:35 PM (in response to Henry Rosenberg)Thank you. I have found that. I have tried also a search for Hans Anderson in Brooklyn, New York but with no success. Not sure now where to go in my search.

Henry Rosenberg May 1, 2019 9:32 AM (in response to Robyn Johnston)1 person found this helpfulFound a Hans Anderson in Brooklyn in 1900 but not your relative Marentius. Don't know if this is the right Hans but he was born in Norway. See if family has any documents. Name change or misspelling is still a possibility. Do you know for sure that he remained in the U.S.?

Sorry, this was from a New York census 1905. 263 16th Street Brooklyn. This is the census book from the link I gave you above. These threads are hard to follow. Is this what you had found?
