US Navy Board of Medical Survey BuNav 231543 May, 1941

    Steve Rannenberg Newbie

      Good morning,

I am doing research on a US Navy Board of Medical Survey BuNav document 231543 date May, 1941 used as the reason to discharge a recruit at boot camp who is now deceased.  I am attempting to determine the reason for his discharge to determine if his family can request and obtain a US Department of Veterans Affairs marker for his grave.

          Dear Mr. Rannenberg,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

Reports of Medical Survey would be filed in the recruits personnel file. The medical records and Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs) of enlisted men of the U.S. Navy who were separated from the service after 1885 and prior to 1957 are located at NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO  63138-1002. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to the above address.

We hope this information is helpful.
