2 people found this helpfulDear Mr. Darnall,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) and located deck logs of the USS McClelland (DE-750) for 19 September 1944 to 15 May 1946 and muster rolls for the same period. For access to and copies of these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
To determine what ship he served on before the McClelland, please request a copy of his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). OMPFs of those who served in the U.S. Navy who were separated from the service prior to 1957 are located at NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 to request these records. Any awards or medals he received will be included in his file.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
