Seeking records online of family from Maine

    Grahame Jordan Newbie

Originally born in Portland Maine USA (mid 19th century), my G/grandparents moved to Farmington New Hampshire. would there be any records of Joshua T Pride and his sons John Pennel and Henry Pride? John Pennel Pride is my grandfather, he died in 1935 and is buried in my home town of Leicester, England. He was a travelling salesman/manager for the Union Shoe Machinery Co.

Any advice or information would be gratefully appreciated.

      Thank you

      Yours sincerely, Grahame C Jordan

          Dear Mr. Jordan,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

When trying to locate records that are in the custody of the National Archives, please consider how the Pride family would have interacted with the Federal government.  The National Archives at Boston maintains Federal records from Maine and New Hampshire (https://www.archives.gov/boston).

The United Shoe Machinery Company has a large archival collection maintained by the National Museum of American History that includes records of their employees from 1908-1981 (https://amhistory.si.edu/archives/AC0277.pdf).  This may be a good resource for records on John Pennel Pride.

The Farmington Historical Society appears to be a very active organization and we suggest contacting them about your family.

We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
