Dear Ms. Ruivo,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
While the National Archives and Records Administration has physical custody of the Official Military Personnel Files for former service members, we do not have the authority to make changes to these records. Instead, each military service maintains a board with the authority to change, correct or modify discharges under certain circumstances. For more information we recommend that you visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs How to Apply for a Discharge Upgrade website.
Each service also maintains a web page for their respective board that provides information about the process:
- Army Discharge Review Board.
- Air Force Board for Correction of Military Records
- Board for Correction of Military Records of the Coast Guard
- Board for the Correction of Naval Records (U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps)
We hope this is helpful.
