    USS Massachusetts WWII Deck Logs

I'm very new to researching USN records, as in never done it before.

Looking for guidance on how to obtain USS Massachusetts (BB-59) deck logs from specific time periods: during visits to Casco Bay, Maine in WWII.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

      Thanks for any assistance.

          Dear Mr. Obrey,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) and located deck logs of the USS Massachusetts (BB-59) from 12 May 1942 to 10 March 1947. We also located muster rolls of the Massachusetts for the same time period.

According to the Dictionary of Naval Fighting Ships, the Massachusetts was in Casco Bay Harbor on 12 May 1942. No other date was listed. For access to or copies of this deck log, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
