          Dear Mr. Schneider,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the series titled Activity Reports, 1945 - 1946 and Historical Background Files, 1946 - 1957 in RG 260, U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR) but were unable to locate records pertaining to the shipment of yen. There were the only two series of USCAR for 1946. We also searched the series titled General Correspondence Files, 1/1/1946 - 12/31/1947 of the Philippines-Ryukyus Command (PHILYRYCOM) in RG 554 but were unable to locate information concerning the shipment of yen.

We checked the unit records in both RG 338 & RG 407 for that time period but were unable to locate records of the 1st Military Police Company (Provisional) for August 1946. In addition, according to the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, LST-610 was decommissioned from the Navy on June 28, 1946 and was transferred to USCAR on September 18, 1946. Therefore, there are no deck logs for August 1946 available for that LST. Please provide us with more information and we will gladly continue our search.

          We hope this is helpful.

            Dear Mr. Schneider,

We searched the records of the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR) in RG 260, the Philippines-Ryukyus Command (PHILYRYCOM) in RG 554, the unit records in both RG 338 & RG 407 for that time period but were unable to locate information or records pertaining the Naze Detachment or the Northern Ryukyu Islands Section of the HQ, U.S. Military Government.

We also searched the index to the Air Force History microfilm available at https://www.airforcehistoryindex.org/ and located three files of the 1st Military Police Company (Aviation) (Provisional) dated from March 4, 1945 to February 28, 1946 on Reel A0325 beginning at Frame 1277. No files were located for August 1946. For access to and/or copies of the microfilm, please contact the National Archives at College Park -- Textual Reference via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

                Mrs. Collier,

Found something interesting read in Military Government operations book after the Navy transferred Control to the Army on the Island of Okinawa. It stated that the Commanding General of the Tenth Army will control all Yen currencies used by occupying forces. It also "stated that any transfer would be handled by the one military disbursing officer to another of any service, and that funds maybe drawn from, or turned over to the MG". Also found it interesting that it states that any yen transfer by any party will be notified and reported to the War, or Navy Department.

                Any other thoughts?

                Thanks,

                Elliot Schneider
