I'm doing research for my World War I lesson and cannot find an accurate statistic for the number of US Navy sailors prior to American entrance into the Great War. Does anyone know how many sailors the US had in total in 1916?
According to the Naval History and Heritage Command Chronology for World War I (https://www.history.navy.mil/research/library/online-reading-room/title-list-alphabetically/u/us-navy-world-war-i-redire… ), the U. S. Navy had 197 commissioned ships, 4,376 regular officers, 877 reserve officers, 64,118 regular enlisted men, and 12,206 reservists on 6 April 1917.
