Finding Deck logs etc for China Riverboats, possibly USS Panay

    Scott Honour Newbie

I'm looking for any records concerning the China Riverboats and possibly the USS Panay. In particular, any information

on U.S. Marines stationed on her, or possibly some of the other CRB's.

          Dear Mr. Honour,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the Navy Filing Manual and located eight vessels that had the Patrol Vessels - River Gunboat designation of PR: Palos (PR-1), Monocacy (PR-2), Wake (PR-3), Tutuilla (PR-4), Panay (PR-5), Oahu (PR-6), Luzon (PR-7, and Mindanao (PR-8). The deck logs of these gunboats and information about the Marine Corps units that may have served on them prior to WWII are in the custody of the National Archives in Washington, DC (RDT1). Please email RDT1 via archives1reference@nara.gov for access and copies of these records.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
