Have spoken to several organizations such as the ARNORTH Which has a museum that deals with the current 5th Army at Fort Sam Houston. The Archivist there was familiar with the older 5th Army records she said that she knows that many of the records have been released to NARA. She did say that most of those 5th Army records have not been processed. Asked what that entails, she said basically they are still in the old Federal Records Center (FRC) boxes for the most part, but she mentioned that NARA has not gone through them entirely to come up with series just like the other files as of lately.
My question is does NARA have short term or a long term plan, in order to properly document the 5th Army records such as the other 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Armies records that seems like are mostly processed. Would love to hear about those plans, as always much appreciated.
Dear Mr. Schneider,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
According to the Processing staff, there are no plans to fully process the Fifth Army post-WWII records in FY 2019. Limited descriptions are available in the National Archives Catalog.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
