Found this interesting while researching your report listed above, found another MACR report for aircraft 42-97797
That MCAR report for 42-37879 you mentioned was involved in a mid air with 42-97797. Was not sure if you read that report on that one either. Did you try requesting the AAF unit information for that time period to see if the have any other detailed information .

Dear Val Burgess,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the Records of the Office of the Quartermaster General (Record Group 92) and located the Missing Aircrew Report (MACR) No. 8176 for Aircraft Tail No. 43-37879. The crew was part of the 334th Bomb Squadron, 95th Bomb Group. There were no MACRs for 42-37879.
Once we had the unit information, we searched the series World War II Combat Operations Reports, 1941 - 1946 in Record Group 18 and located a folder titled 95th Bomb Group: Mission Report August 16, 1944. This mission report is a compilation of other reports related to the mission including the S-2 report. There are no separate records of the 334th. For access to this mission report, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at email@example.com.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
I can't help you with the report But my father in law flew 12 missions on that aircraft. I still have his flight jacket with nose art painted on the back I'm looking for a photo of the aircraft if you can help.
