Thank you for contacting the History Hub regarding immigration records. Please use the link in our recent genealogy blog about Immigration and Naturalization records to better understand the circumstances of an individual’s travel to the United States.
Best of luck with your research!

joan stachnik Jul 2, 2018 4:41 PM (in response to jenny.parish)Ms. Parish, thank you. I will check the link. One of my reasons for asking was that I noticed on my grandmother's naturalization papers (from 1941), she returned to Poland for a few months, many years before becoming a citizen (and before my grandfather became a citizen). I was wondering what type of documents might have been needed for travel around that time (about 1912-1913). Thank you again for your help. joan

Another resource may be to contact the Department of State
or www.uscis.gov for the history of early US policies regarding citizen and immigrant passports.
