Where can I find military Navy records for William Alphonsus Dooner Bufford?

    Patricia Samuel Newbie

William Alphonsus Dooner Bufford was born August, 1887 and died April 16, 1947; he was buried in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Where can I find additional information on him. He was Chief Commissary Steward in the US Navy. His serial number was 113-97-27. I'm looking for any pictures of him.

          Dear Ms. Samuel,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

The medical and Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs) of enlisted men of the U.S. Navy who were separated from the service after 1885 and prior to 1957 are located at NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO  63138-1002. Please use a GSA SF 180 to request these records. Depending on when he was in the Navy, there may be a photograph filed with his OMPF.

We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
