I have an ancestor who applied for a civil war pension.

I have an ancestor who applied for a civil war pension.  Records on Fold3 indicate the pension may have been declined due to the spelling of his last name (Graham/Gimes - Kentucky or Indiana).  Where do I research the disposition of this issue?

          Ms. Van Ham,

Thank you for contacting the History Hub re: pensions. Could you be more specific on the details of the soldier? Name and regiment? I might be able to review the index card online for you?

Normally, invalid soldiers apply and receive an application number. If they are approved, they will receive a certificate number. If they are declined, the certificate number will not be assigned, thus blank space on the soldier's index card.

You may request pension files in person (Free) or online ($).

I hope this information is helpful?
