    Consular Invoices

Does anyone know if historic consular invoices are archived somewhere? This includes Invoice of Merchandise/Foreign Service Form 138?

          Mr. Mallon,

A search of the National Archives and Records Administration catalog shows that consular invoices are topics of concern in several government agencies. They appear in Record Group (RG) 16, Records of the Department of Agriculture, RG 59, Records of the Department of State, and RG 36, Records of the US Customs Service. Unfortunately it seems like you’re looking for specific invoices and these records are too high a level of description since they are administrative records.

It is likely the individual invoices were deemed to be temporary records and destroyed after a period of time. Please check with reference at archives2reference@nara.gov to be sure.

Best of luck to you! And thank you for using History Hub.
