Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We suggest that you begin by obtaining his Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs) for his Navy service. OMPFs of enlisted men of the U.S. Navy who were separated from the service prior to 1955 are located at NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. Please use the GSA SF 180 to request these records. Or you may apply online at https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/.
OMPFs for those who served in the U.S. Air Force who were separated from the service after 1946 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. In many cases where personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire, proof of service can be provided from other records such as morning reports, payrolls, and military orders, and a certificate of military service will be issued. Please use the same GSA SF 180 and address as above to request this search. Or you may apply online at https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/. Please provide as much information on your father as you can.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
