Re: 1945 Stamps with OPA Number...
ira.claves Apr 17, 2018 1:20 PM (in response to Christian Belena)I think the first ones are Transport Mileage Rations, OPA R-532, used for freight or shipping vehicles of an essential nature. The second ones look to be Non-Highway Gasoline Rations, Form OPA R-531, for gas for boats, tractors, stoves, whatnot. You see them in various academic collections but NARA has OPA records nationwide so someone there might be able to help.

Hi Christian,
We have some “B” and “C” gasoline ration coupons in our OPA records here in Boston, but I have not come across any of the “T” or “R” ration books. Apparently the OPA published a pamphlet in 1946 titled “Rationing in WWII,” which provides a summary of the rationing program (see the description from the World War II Rationing Collection at the New York State Library here). It might be worth trying to track down that pamphlet to see if goes into detail more about the different types of ration stamps.

Yes. I am definitely going to track that pamphlet down. Thanks again.

This "How Mileage is Rationed" poster in the catalog also briefly mentions "T" and "R" rations:

Andrew: Thank you. At FDRLP we do not have any ration books, etc. The poster you linked actually told me a great deal. I have the window placards in my private collection but never saw these stamps before. Thanks again.
