To locate an inmate case file from Leavenworth, please contact the National Archives at Kansas City, MO. They may be contacted via email at kansascity.archives@nara.gov.
The National Archives has an online name index to inmate case files from Leavenworth. It covers the years 1895-1931. Although it does not cover the year 1940, it may be worth it just to check anyway.
Additionally, Ancestry has a name index for inmate case files from Leavenworth. It covers the years 1895-1936. Again, it does not cover the year 1940, but it may be worth it just to check anyway. Ancestry is available to search for free at any National Archives location including regional facilities and presidential libraries.
