Dear Ms. Campbell,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the Records of the National Guard Bureau (Record Group 168) and located the "Army NGB State Decimal File, 1922 - 1945" (NM-3 344B). The correspondence may contain information about some specific units. In order to conduct a search of these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email and provide the state, the unit your father serve with, and any dates you may have. These records will not contain information about the Guardsmen, only about the unit.
For access to personnel records of non-active duty National Guard enlisted personnel and officers in the Army, please contact the Adjutant General of the appropriate state using the addresses listed on the National Guard Association website.
We hope this is useful. Best of luck with your research!
Thank you, Rebecca. That's very helpful.
What state did they serve. There are allot of states that have historical libraries, or state research centers. I have been able to find many of my relatives that served in the state guards.
Thank you, Elliot. My dad served in the 131st Infantry in Illinois from 1933-1937. I'll give them a try.
