Re: My father enlisted in the army in 1942 at Fort George Meade, Maryland. How can I find where he did basic training? It's not on his DD-214. When I called Fort Meade, they said thousands of enlistees passed through there.

Your dad's separation papers should list his unit when discharged, so you could look through morning reports, starting with his date of enlistment/activation. However, I think that many soldiers were transferred between units throughout their service, so it might take some looking to find where he started from, if this was the case for your dad. Many of these morning reports are located at the St. Louis Archives. I did visit the archives and the staff there was exceptional in helping me start my search. I also sought out the help of a professional researcher. Hope this helps some. joan
