Re: Are constituent letters written to former Senators archived?
Legislative ArchivesNov 29, 2017 12:06 PM (in response to James M)
4 people found this helpfulHi James! Constituent mail is considered part of a Senator's personal papers, which are not held by the Center for Legislative Archives. Instead, the personal papers of members of Congress are geographically dispersed in repositories around the country.
The website bioguide.congress.gov is the best source for identifying where these archival collections are located. In addition to a brief biography, each entry contains a list of repositories where a particular member's papers are housed.
We also maintain an index of archival repositories and congressional collections by state.

Michael Tomko Nov 29, 2017 1:53 PM (in response to Legislative Archives)If a legislative representative is expelled and convicted of crimes and imprisoned, does NARA audit the constituent correspondence and records as to ensure they are accounted for, and secured? Since legislative records are exempt from FOIA, does NARA ensure that they are maintained as Controlled Unclassified Information to maintain privacy?

3 people found this helpfulHi Michael! We don't hold in our records the personal papers of members of Congress, rather the Center for Legislative Archives holds the official records of congressional committees and the records of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate as a whole.
For more background, the Office of History, Art & Archives of the House has written an excellent post on the personal papers of members of Congress. Likewise, you can read more about Senators' papers and archives.
If you have further questions on the personal papers of members of Congress, I'd recommend you reach out to the House Archives or to the Senate Historical Office.
