I have used both Census.gov and Ancestry, but realized that I was only looking at the Population Schedules. How do I access the housing schedules from the 1940 and 1950 census?

Johanna,
The Housing Schedules were never filmed. Only overall statistics exist. I know that for the 1950 census..... there are block summaries for a few questions on urban areas of over 50,000. See my essay on how to get to see those at: 1950 Census Block Housing Information Is Available For 213 Municipalities I believe that the census bureau might have done the same thing for 1940.
Thank you so much, Joel. I used the links you shared and got the 1950 block data. I could not find online the correct 1940 volumes. However, I ordered the physical volumes at the Library and found the block statistics in the volumes marked supplement, which is great.
