I am writing to you in order to ask for some details about an air crash that occurred in WW2 which involved a German pilot. Several witnesses said that, after an air combat, a German plane crashed in the land between Andrano and Castiglione Salentino, in southern Salento, Italy, but the pilot has been rescued. Unfortunately, there are not precise data. My interest is only of a historical nature because we are trying to reconstruct the events of that period in our village, but we are in need of more information (the day of the accident, the circumstances that provoked it and the name of the pilot). Thanks in advance, I hope in your Help.
Dear Mr. Urso,
Thank you for posting to History Hub! Because the crash involved a German pilot in Italy, it is unlikely that NARA would have any records related to the incident in our records. We suggest you contact the Deutsche Dienstelle (WASt), Postfach 51 06 57, D-13400 Berlin, Germany. The website is http://www.dd-wast.de/.
