2 people found this helpfulDear Ms. Morelli,
There is not a unique Record Group of files for Union soldiers that deserted from Confederate prison. There may be related records in our custody, but they could be dispersed throughout various series. We would suggest checking out this History Hub thread regarding records relating to Civil War desertion, which mentions a variety of potential sources of information relating to Civil War deserters. If you have not done so already, we would also recommend reviewing NARA’s Civil War Records: Basic Research Sources, and Trevor Plante’s Prologue article, The Shady Side of the Family Tree: Civil War Union Court-Martial Case Files.
Thank you for sharing your question with the History Hub, and good luck with your research!
