Civil War deserters from Confederate prisons

    Jill Morelli Wayfarer

Are there any unique RGs of files for Union soldiers that deserted from Confederate prison?

Person of interest: James W. Axton, Co. 85, PA Infantry, who deserted from Salisbury (NC) prison to join the Confederates in late 1864. It appears his minor child got a pension.

I have not yet pulled his CMSR or his pension record, but will do that in July when I am in DC.
