Seeking Sanborn Fire Insurance Land Maps & Records

Daniel Alfred Sanborn was born in 1827 and did not begin creating fire insurance maps until 1866. He founded his own firm in 1867.

The Library of Congress has a large collection of Sanborn Maps. The Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps Online Checklist provides a searchable database of the fire insurance maps published by the Sanborn Map Company housed in the collections of the Library of Congress’s Geography and Map Division.
