Re: In which 1950 Census enumeration district is Homer Ave/Washington Ave Chicago?
Joel Weintraub Apr 7, 2022 6:42 PM (in response to Drew Blake)Use the Unified Tool (US Census Section) which should give you some ED #s after you pick Illinois (state), and Chicago. Pick your streets from the street index.. It's at stevemorse.org.

Dear Mr. Blake,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
You may search for it in the 1950 census. Narrow your search to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. If you know exactly where you lived in 1950, please look at the Enumeration District maps provided with the county to help narrow your search. In most counties, if you click on the "ED Maps" icon for any enumeration district, you will then be able to see the maps for the entire county. This is an image of the icon that you click on. You can also read the Enumeration District (ED) descriptions to narrow your search to the specific. Once you decide which Enumeration Districts to search, you can read through them page by page.
You can add the person’s name to your search – but realize that the name index is not perfect. Searches for the name of the head of household often work best because the census takers wrote the surname only on the line for the head of household (usually male) and other people in the household with a different surname. In addition, the draft 1950 census index was created using machine learning assisted Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which can be inaccurate due to issues such as: illegible handwriting, poor image orientation (slightly sideways), variations in image quality (light, dark, or poor contrast), text obscured by handwritten flourishes from letters on the line above or below, different handwriting styles, and because surnames written only on the line for the head of household and other persons in the household with a different surname. For more information see 1950 Census: Please Help NARA Refine the Draft Name Index!
Please note that stores and other businesses will not be listed. He would only be listed at the address f he was also using that address as a residence, such as if he were using an upstairs apartment.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!

Re: In which 1950 Census enumeration district is Homer Ave/Washington Ave Chicago?
J. Andrew Apr 9, 2022 9:47 AM (in response to Drew Blake)Could you double check the locations? I'm not seeing any intersection between Homer and Washington on current maps or the 1950 census ED finder. There is however an intersection between W. Homer St. and Washtenaw Ave.
Assuming you mean Washtenaw, one possible match is:
Year Series Roll State County ED Description Details 1950 T628 https://stevemorse.org/census/reelframes.html?year=1950&state=il&county=103&ed=3212 IL Chicago (Cook Co) (103) 103-3212 CHICAGO CITY, WARD 34 (TRACT 258) BOUNDED BY (N) ARMITAGE AVE W; (E) ROCKWELL N; (S) BLOOMINGDALE AVE W; (W) TALMAN AVE N, CORTLAND W, WASHTENAW AVE N view
And where does "Vanderheim" fit into things? Is that the name of the store?

Joel Weintraub Apr 9, 2022 4:09 PM (in response to Drew Blake)Drew, what is the exact address of your Dad? If you don't know, here's where you can find the White Pages Telephone Directory for Chicago in June 1952: https://www.loc.gov/resource/usteledirec.usteledirec04825x/?sp=98&r=0.302,0.298,0.423,0.256,0
