Re: Seeking original documents for the Ship Richmond
Susannah Brooks Mar 23, 2022 12:09 PM (in response to Lucy Bowerman)Using the 3 volume Pennsylvania German Pioneers by Strassburger & Hinke, which primarily contains the list of men 16 or older (the C lists in the books), who signed the oath of allegiance to the King of England at the Philadelphia Courthouse upon their arrival, I found 2 Christian Steiners. One arrived on the Neptune in Oct 1746 (vol. 1, p. 363) and the other arrived on the Hamilton on 6 Oct 1757 (vol 1, p. 716). I did not find any listing for Abraham Reich. There was an Abraham Jacob on the Richmond on 20 Oct 1764. This website describes the Oaths Oaths of Fidelity | PHMC > Our Documentary Heritage (state.pa.us)

Dear Ms. Bowerman,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
The Pennsylvania State Archives maintains official ships' passenger lists on microfilm, recording the arrival of Continental Europeans (chiefly German, Dutch, Swiss and French) at the Port of Philadelphia, 1727-1744, 1746-1756, 1761, 1763-1775, 1785-1808. Lists dating before the Revolution do not cover British subjects since their status remained unchanged by their removal from one part of the King's dominion to another. There are three sets of passenger lists: The "A" lists are the Captains' Lists of passengers being imported; "B" lists are Oaths of Allegiance to the King; and "C" lists are Oaths of Abjuration from the Pope. An individual being transported may be found on one or all of the three lists. For more information about these records, please contact the Pennsylvania State Archives at ra-statearchives@pa.gov.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
