Jason AtkinsonMar 15, 2022 11:56 AM (in response to Alexandra Duncan)
Dear Ms. Duncan,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
If your burial request involves interment at a Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery, please contact the National Cemetery Scheduling Office at 800-535-1117 or visit the National Cemetery Administration website. They will contact the National Personnel Record Center (NPRC), and NPRC will work directly with the Veterans Affairs staff to obtain records to verify service for burial benefits. If the veteran will not be interred at a National Cemetery, fax the SF-180 (including signature of the next of kin and proof of death) to the Customer Service Team at 314-801-0764. See Emergency Requests for more information.
You also may telephone the NPRC Customer Service Line (this is a long-distance call for most customers) at 314-801-0800 for assistance and for further information about the status of submitted requests.
We hope this is helpful.

Alexandra Duncan Mar 17, 2022 12:58 PM (in response to Jason Atkinson)Thank you so much for responding!
I am also seeking all of his military and healthcare records; would it be beneficial to submit a different request NOT including request for his DD-214 or is there another way to accomplish this?-

Dear Ms. Duncan,
Thank you for posting your follow-up request on History Hub!
Requesting proof of service of a recently deceased veteran for the purpose of burial benefits constitutes an emergency request, and should be requested using the procedures we outlined in our previous response. These requests are expedited, and the records that are sent are the minimum necessary to provide proof that the veteran qualifies for the benefit. You will not be able to request his entire file using this procedure.
We suggest that you contact the NPRC Customer Service Team at 314-801-0764 so that they can work with you directly to resolve your situation. We hope this is helpful.
