Dear Ms. Franke,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
Birth/death certificates, adoption proceedings, marriage licenses, divorce decrees, wills and the like are commonly known as Vital Records. Vital records usually list other family members such as parents. These vital records are created and stored by local authorities. The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics website gives information on how to obtain vital records from US state and territorial agencies.
We suggest that you review NARA’s Resources for Genealogists, as well as the History Hub Blog titled Suggestions and Advice for Family History Researchers. Also, the FamilySearch Research wiki for United States Jewish Genealogy may be useful.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
