    Seeking records about Mont Chateau

    John May Newbie

I am seeking documentation, photos or film of a resort that was located on the Cheat River, now Cheat Lake, near Morgantown, WV.  The name of the Hotel was Mont Chateau.  It was a popular vacation destination in the East from its opening in 1894 through 1919 and reportedly attracted famous personages such as Thomas A. Edison.  During the 1920s it was operated as a private clubhouse for members of Pittsburgh's Duquesne Club. It was destroyed by fire in 1956 and was subsequently the site of a WV State Park of the same name. We are trying to find additional information on the original resort for the purpose of nominating the site for placement on the National Register of Historic Places.  Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
