Thank you Kelly! Yes I am just getting started with my maternal family. Jennie was a cook at the Indian school and James a farmer. I can't even confirm that this is the correct James Murray but what would the odds be that it is? Same place, same time, correct time frame for a child to be born 9 months later. This cracked me up because I have been a school cook for 10 years and ready to head back into my 11th year. I think she and I would have been kindred spirits. Thank you so very much for the lead. I hope I will be able to find out more!
What a great story! Good luck in your research. In case it's helpful, there's a Virtual Genealogy Fair that will be webcast on October 27 and 27. I think you'll have an opportunity to ask questions, too.
Dear Ms. Wagner
This is in reply to your inquiry requesting a personnel record related to the federal service of your great great grandfather and mother.
The National Archives at St. Louis maintains personnel records related to the service of former military service members and former civil service employees. The Indian Schools were sometimes managed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs under the Department of the Interior. In order to search for the record of your relatives, we will need additional information such as full name, date of birth and any other identifying information that you have.
If you can furnish any additional information we will resume our search. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
