We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series World War II War Diaries, Other Operational Records and Histories in the Records of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (Record Group 38) that contains 20 references to TG 52.2 in 1945, 51 references to Task Group 52.2, and 202 references to Balikpapan for various ships that may be relevant to your research. These records have been digitized and may be viewed online using the Catalog.
Next, we located the series Dispatches and Related Records Collected by the Chart Room, 1940-1946, the series Intercepted Enemy Radio Traffic and Related Documentation, 1935-1946, and the series Monograph Files Relating to the Netherlands East Indies, 1939-1946 in Record Group 38 that all contain information about Balikpapan during 1945. The series Top Secret General Administrative Files, 1944-1945 in the Records of Naval Operating Forces (Record Group 313) also includes records related to Balikpapan.
