Dear Mr. O’Neal,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series Preliminary Design Drawings, 1929-1964 in the Records of the Bureau of Ships (Record Group 19) that includes records related to the BB-67 (Montana Class) battleships. The series Microfilm of Ship Engineering Drawings, 1945-1955 in Record Group 19 includes the file USS Montana BB-67 and 2 files for the USS Louisiana (BB-19 and BB-71) that may be of interest to you. These records have not been digitized. Please contact the National Archives at College Park - Cartographic (RDSC) at email@example.com for access to and information about these and similar records.
Next, we located the Alphabetical Series of Ship Engineering Drawings, 1789-1967 and the series Ship Engineering Drawings, 1874-1976 in Record Group 19, but we were unable to locate a file for the BB-67 in these records. Some of these drawings have been digitized and are available using the Catalog. For more information about the non-digitized plans, please contact RDSC.
Plus, we located the series Preliminary Design Books, 1904-1957 in Record Group 19 that contains 1 file related to the BB-67, which has not been digitized. Please contact the National Archives College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) at firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance with these records.
Due to the continued impact of COVID-19, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgment as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDSC and RDT2.
